All of us USC Occupational Therapy students have to complete a two-week fieldwork experience this spring semester. I’ll be doing mine at a skilled nursing facility, caring for the elderly…in Hawaii. I arrived in paradise this afternoon, where I’ll be staying with my dear friend, Annie (my college roommate, Prague study abroad/European travel buddy of 2005, and bridesmaid), along with herhusband (JD), her almost-two-year-old (Elianna/Ellie), and their dog (Rowdy). Oh yeah, and Annie’s 37 weeks pregnant! Couldn’t think of a better way to do fieldwork!
Located in the town of Kapolei on the island of Oahu, the facility at which I will be volunteering is called Ka Punawai Ola. I start on Monday.
Here’s a peak at the facility:
Hoping this will be great time of learning.
